The Oxfam blog, From Poverty to Power, has published a piece today by me on the link between arms flows out of Libya, governance problems across the Sahel and the deepening food crisis. This is all part of the continuing series of unintended consequences of NATO's action in Libya last year - and something which NATO leaders should be analysing when they meet in Chicago. If NATO is to have a more expeditionary future, relying on responsibility to protect mandates from the UN Security Council, it cannot ignore the wider consequences of its actions while simply congratulating itself on the efficiency of its military machine.
