Putin on Relations with NATO

President Putin said this on Friday about relations between NATO and Russia:

“The effectiveness of our cooperation will depend on the extent to which NATO respects the interests of the Russian Federation and the Alliance’s willingness to compromise on issues shaping the strategic environment in Europe and the world.”

With the caveat that it would be helpful for Russia to stop threatening to target Europe with nuclear weapons if the President wants this kind of cooperation, this sounds like a good formula. Let us hope, when we see the full Sochi declaration, that both sides have been able to apply this flexibility.
